Directions and Transportation
In this lesson, we will learn how to ask for and give directions, use transportation-related vocabulary, and navigate public transportation in Nepali-speaking areas. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to confidently communicate and navigate your way around Nepali-speaking areas.
- Asking for Directions:
- Yeta kasari jaun? (यता कसरी जाउँ?) – How do I go here?
- Kripaya, map ma dekhaunus. (कृपया, म्याप मा देखाउनुस्।) – Please, show me on the map.
- Giving Directions:
- Samaan paas gara. (समान पास गर।) – Keep straight.
- Bayaata tira jaanu. (ब्याटा तिर जानु।) – Go left.
- Daayaa tira jaanu. (दाया तिर जानु।) – Go right.
- Tala tira jaanu. (तल तिर जानु।) – Go down.
- Maathi tira jaanu. (माति तिर जानु।) – Go up.
- Transportation Vocabulary:
- Gaadi (गाडी) – Vehicle
- Bus (बस) – Bus
- Taxi (ट्याक्सी) – Taxi
- Rickshaw (रिक्शा) – Rickshaw
- Sadak (सडक) – Road
- Navigating Public Transportation:
- Bus station kahaan chha? (बस स्टेसन कहाँ छ?) – Where is the bus station?
- Gaadi ko ticket kati ho? (गाडी को टिकट कति हो?) – How much is the bus ticket?
- Taxi katti samay lagcha? (ट्याक्सी कति समय लाग्छ?) – How long does it take by taxi?
Practice Activity:
- Role-play asking for and giving directions with a partner, using the phrases learned in this lesson.
- Plan a simulated journey using public transportation and practice asking relevant questions.
- Create a dialogue between two people discussing transportation options in a Nepali-speaking area.
